Stone Sour’s Corey Taylor + Christian Martucci Lead Chris Cornell Tribute at Rock on the Range
It's was an emotional day at Rock on the Range, as festival goers and fellow acts were mourning the death of Chris Cornell, whose band Soundgarden were set to headline Friday night's bill. But instead, festival organizers managed to put together a tribute to honor Cornell with the help of Stone Sour members Corey Taylor and Christian Martucci.
The band Live performed just prior to the special tribute, including Audioslave's "I Am the Highway" in their show. Just as their set ended, the lights dimmed just long enough to set up the tribute, which began with images of Cornell along with his music. Soon after, Taylor and Martucci graced the stage and performed a moving cover of Pink Floyd's classic "Wish You Were Here." That was followed by the pair taking on the Temple of the Dog favorite "Hunger Strike" much to the delight of the crowd. See videos of both performances below.
After Taylor and Martucci played, the remainder of the tribute featured video and audio footage of some of Cornell's best works with all of his various projects including Cornell's isolated vocals on the Soundgarden song "Black Hole Sun." A Rock on the Range pro-shot clip can be viewed above.
It was definitely a trying day for Rock on the Range festival goers as severe weather caused a lengthy delay in the proceedings. Eventually, organizers gave the all clear and many of the acts performing pushed back their start times in order to play with the event going late into the evening.
Stay tuned, as we'll update with photos from the Chris Cornell tribute at Rock on the Range as they become available.
