West Richland Police are warning that scammers are at it again.  This time it's with email.

Recently, a citizen received an email from a West Richland police officer asking for money.  The email sent used a westrichlandpolice@gmail.com account.  Just so you know, that is NOT a West Richland Police Department email account.  And, the West Richland Police Department does not send out emails asking for money.

If you receive such an email, please call non-emergency dispatch at 509-628-0333 to report it.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends that if you are the target of a scamming email or call to report the incidents.

How to Recognize Phishing

Scammers use email or text messages to trick you into giving them your personal information. They may try to steal your passwords, account numbers, or Social Security numbers. If they get that information, they could gain access to your email, bank, or other accounts. Scammers launch thousands of phishing attacks like these every day — and they’re often successful.
