People would travel across the country to help the Yakama Nation commemorate the treaty of 1855. With twelve to thirteen thousand enrolled members, I keep on losing count. It's one of the biggest reservations in the state of Washington.

The Yakama Nation usually gets ready to commemorate the treaty of 1855 in early June. But due to concerns with Covid-19. Several Yakama Nation Treaty Days events are being canceled or postponed.

From the Miss Yakama Nation pageant. To floats getting ready for the parade held in Toppenish. Then there is the Rodeo at the rodeo grounds in Whites Swan. As well as the Treaty Days Pow Wow. Located at the White Swan Pavillion.

According to the Facebook pages. The Yakama Nation Treaty Days Pow Wow looks like it is going virtual. For the rodeo goers, the Treaty Days Rodeo has been canceled for 2020. The parade and events scheduled for June 5th have been postponed at the Cultural Center in Toppenish.

From myself as an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation. I'm upset that these events won't be happening. But at the same time, I understand it is for the safety of the elders, the communities, and the reservation. To help prevent the spread of Covid-19. Stay safe and stay healthy my people.
