The Yakima City Council took no action Friday to appeal the decision of a federal judge who ruled that Yakima's way of electing city council members was unfair to Latinos.

But in a short meeting, the council did vote 7-0 to continue negotiating with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) over the $2.8 million in legal fees that the ACLU says the city should pay them in their Voting Rights Act violation case against the city.

The council took no action on a possible appeal of the judge's ruling, but has until April 17 to file.
