The Yakima County Sheriff's Office is warning of a scam that's been looking for victims in Yakima for many years. Deputies say the scammers pretend to be a Sgt. from the office. The scammers say the person has a warrant for an arrest and that fines can be paid over the phone with a credit card or other means of payment like gift cards.
The sheriff's office says don’t be fooled even if it says the phone call is coming the sheriff's office.  Law Enforcement will never call a person about a warrant and we would never request payment over the phone. Sheriff's officials say scammers can be very convincing. Be vigilant and hang up.
