Yakima Fire Department Firefighters were busy with a fire Wednesday in the 800 block of South 16th Avenue. Firefighters were called to the home at about 2:34 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived they found a two-story home fully engulfed in flames. Authorities say the flames were threatening other homes. Six people were able to escape the fire. One person was treated at the scene for minor burns. The six people are now being helped by the American Red Cross. Investigators say the cause of the fire is believe to be tied to the electrical system in the home. Damage is estimated at $200,000. Fire officials say the fire severely damaged the home. A nearby home was also damaged because of the fire.
Firefighters spent about 2 hours dousing flames at the home before firefighters could stop pouring water on flames.
It was a busy day for firefighters on Wednesday. On Wednesday morning A triplex under construction in the 1100 block of Willow Street sustained damages estimated at $50,000 following a fire reported at about 7:41 a.m. Firefighters found an exterior fire that had moved into the interior of the single-story structure. No injuries were reported.

When people are burned out of their homes with no place to go or live that's when the American Red Cross steps in to help. Red Cross officials arrive at the scene when firefighters rescue or find people who have escaped a home fire. The Red Cross provides food, clothes and shelter and any other needs that can help those who were impacted by the fire. The help includes hotel rooms for people to stay until they have no other place to live.
