Yakima Police Captain Talks Defund Police Movement

Yakima Police Captain Jay Seely is a 25 year veteran of Law Enforcement who calls the job "fantastic, noble and honorable"-- when he first started out,  but says today he wouldn't recommend the profession to his son.

Seely says the idea of cutting police funding will manifest in just the opposite of what the public seems to be clamoring for.  Smaller budget wont mean fewer officers at first but will result in less training and fewer equipment upgrades which runs counter to the things the public says it wants.

The concept of "designated crises responders" makes sense to Seely.  He thinks putting psychologist/social worker types on the force to deal with non-crime related calls is working and should be considered for expansion.
