25-year-old Antoinette Miller made an appearance in Yakima County Superior Court Friday where she was told she faces charges of Second-Degree Murder and Second Degree Assault for the murder of her 4-year-old stepson. Miller was arrested on Wednesday after telling police she strangled the boy.

Doctors tried to save the boy but they were not successful

Miller and the boy arrived at the hospital Wednesday night where doctors worked for 30 minutes to try and save his life.
The boy's father was at work at the time of the incident. He was called to the hospital but he was not arrested.

Authorities served a search warrant at the apartment on Thursday

Police say the boy was struck and strangled at an apartment in the 1100 block of McKinley Avenue. Authorities served a search warrant at the apartment on Thursday where they gathered evidence.
Two other kids in the home are now in protective custody.

The killing of the boy was the second homicide of the year

The death of a 4-year-old is the second murder reported in Yakima so far this year.
The first happened on Tuesday at the Yakima Inn Hotel on North 1st Street. Authorities on Wednesday released the name of the victim as 38-year-old Clayton Peter Brown Jr. He died after being shot in a room at the hotel. Police are still searching for a suspect in the shooting.
