It was a November to remember for some itchy/scratchy members of the Yakima Police Department. Personally, I like my cops clean shaven and my Sasquatch hairy. But there's enough difference of opinion and appearance that beard growing and shaving has become a local, fun, fundraising proposition.

YPD Officer Jeff Miller came up with the idea -- cops contributed money so they could grow their beards and participate. The Yakima chapter of the Blue Knights threw in as did some of the staff at The Range.  Grand total raised: about $6,500!

Capt. Gary Jones was the emcee this morning as each group presented checks to Heidi Anderson, head of the Yakima-based Children's Wishes & Dreams. The donations will remain in the community, helping local kids facing life-threatening or life-altering conditions.

Good job to all for putting their best face forward!
