Just when you thought it was safe to go to the pump...

Yesterday the Washington State Senate passed Senate Bill 5988 by a 27-22 vote bringing with it 15 billion dollars in transportation projects to the state but potentially an 11.7 cents-per-gallon gasoline tax hike.  The tax would be phased in over three years with an initial increase of five cents to hit the pumps later this summer.

Earlier this morning, I talked with 15th Legislative District Representative David Taylor about when he thought the bill would be brought to a vote in the House of Representatives, his prediction as to whether or not it will pass, how he intends to vote and how much of the package will be used for projects on the eastern side of the state.

Taylor reminded his constituency and those living in the 14th District in Yakima as well to call their reps to let them know how they feel about the proposed plan. The Washington State Legislative Hotline is 1-800-562-6000.
