Firefighters are hoping the cooler weather in the forecast will help them gain more containment on the Schneider Springs Fire. The fire is now at 19% containment.

 FIRE IS BEING USED TO FIGHT FIRE ON THE FIRE LINES

Officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest say the fire has now grown to 102,742 acres. Firefighters are hoping for full containment by October 1 but the fight continues until that date. A cold front is expected to hit the state this weekend which will impact fires around the state.
A press release says firefighters are still using fire to fight fire. In fact they say firing operations are expected to "continue along Forest Road 1706. Despite cooler temperatures in the forecast Tuesday will be the warmest day of the week. “Moderate fire behavior is expected with continued creeping, smoldering and isolated torching. Operations will improve the completed dozer and hand line along the east-west section of Forest Road 1706 and the new fire line northwest of Cliffdell. Crews and equipment will continue their work on structure protection in the north (Goose Prairie, Bumping Lake, Bumping River Road, and north/south portion of Highway 410 corridor). Suppression repairs continue throughout contained areas of the fire.”

600 PLUS PEOPLE AND RESOURCES ARE STILL ON THE FIRE

There's a lot of people and resources on the fire but the number is shrinking. On Monday 671 resources were on the fire. Tuesday the number is 611 which includes;
Crews (1); Engines (33); Dozers (7); Air Resources (8); Other Heavy Equipment (30)

Evacuation levels have changed;

LEVEL 2: Bumping River Road corridor from north to south; Highway 410 corridor from Salmon Cove to Pinecliff; LEVEL 1: Highway 410 corridor from Pinecliff to the junction of U.S. Route 12, and from U.S. 12 at Hwy 410 west to Tieton Reservoir Rd. CLOSURES ARE STILL IN PLACE IN THE FOREST AREA

Closures: An area closure for National Forest System lands is in effect. The closure order and map are available at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/closures/7775/. Campfires are prohibited throughout the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. All Washington Department of Natural Resources managed lands in the fire area are temporarily closed, BUT they many areas reopen on Thursday.  A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place over the fire area.
