According to the Yakima Herald-Republic, Fairchild Cinemas, which runs theaters in the Tri-Cities and Moses Lake, submitted an environmental review application for a 43,970-square-foot movie theater in Union Gap. The property is north of Goodman Road and Valley Mall Boulevard. The Herald says that the development would have up to 350 parking spaces.

The property is 10 acres. If the application is approved, all they’ll need to do is apply for a building permit.

The Herald-Republic reported in a story back in 2016 that Raymond Hallett, the guy who operates the movie theater in Sunnyside, purchased some property across from Lowe's in Union Gap. The YH-R tried to contact him back in 2016, but he has yet to comment on his intentions for that property.

Although Hallett hasn't announced any plans for his Union Gap property, being that he currently runs multiple movie theaters, it's safe to assume he was likely considering building another one. I'm kind of fascinated at the interest and competition for another movie theater in Union Gap. There is one already back behind the old Toys R Us, The Majestic, run by Yakima Theatres.

I would love to see a nice new movie theater, and some competition in the area! It's easy to get lazy and allow prices to rise and facilities to age when there is no competition.

So what would we like to see? Maybe an all-ages movie theater with reserved seating and leather reclining seats? Another movie theater, similar to the Orion, that serves alcohol?

Do you like the idea of another movie theater being built?
