Blockbuster Video Store Rebuilt Inside Video Game Convention in Portland
Blockbuster used to be one of the premiere stores for renting the latest movies and video games. At one time they had about 9,000 stores across the nation. Now, they only have one and it's in Bend, Oregon. This past weekend was the Portland Retro Gaming Expo and, for ol' time's sake, they decided to bring back Blockbuster and have a good ol' fashioned video game tournament. It's something Blockbuster has done in the past and has been resurrected at this event.
It was such a nostalgic trip to go in this room and see this mini-Blockbuster location complete with a few aisles, a cashier to ring up your purchases for merch and even a little snack area to grab grub for your entertainment.
They also had a lounge area set to look like the '90s. This was off-limits but still fun to see.
I love that the nostalgia game is strong with these companies and I'd love to see them do more with all this. It would be fun to revive some classic Yakima stores in this manor just for fun. Who knows, it may happen to those shops we held dear and took for granted growing up.
