Is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?
A debate that is as old as time (time after 1988).
The movie takes place on Christmas Eve, the soundtrack is filled with Christmas songs, the gathering and setting for the film is at a company Christmas party, and there’s even a pregnant lady about to give birth on Christmas Eve.
I believe it is a Christmas movie, but my wife does not. No, she and her family prefer A Christmas Story.
Both films have gunplay and someone pretending to be a cowboy, so are these the ingredients that make a Christmas movie?
If that’s the case, there’s a tiny Christmas tree in the background of a scene in Rambo: First Blood, so is that a Christmas Movie?
Going further into the discussion of which movies are Christmas movies or not, Batman Returns and Gremlins could be considered Christmas flicks.
The only argument when it comes to Die Hard that my wife has won against me about Die Hard NOT being a Christmas movie is its placement in our house.
We keep our ‘traditional’ Christmas DVDs (The Grinch, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, you know, the good Christmas movies) with our Christmas decorations.
But my copy of Die Hard is on our shelf with the rest of the movies (because it is a box set).
2 Days ago, while driving, I asked my wife a question, and her response was jaw-dropping.
“Mean Girls has that dance scene where they’re all wearing Christmas outfits, so by ‘Die Hard logic’, Mean Girls is a Christmas movie!” – Stephanie
Her answer was jaw-dropping because of the question I asked her: What did she want to do for dinner? So this thought had CLEARLY been on her mind.
Is Mean Girls a Christmas movie because Rachel McAdams dresses in a Santa suit and dances?
I know her other film, The Family Stone, is a Christmas movie for sure.
If memory serves me correctly, there’s a part of the film The Time Traveler’s Wife that takes place in the winter, so could that be a Christmas movie, or do I just know a lot about Rachel McAdams?
