Crime In Yakima Down Significantly In 2014
According to a new report by the city, crime rates in Yakima have dropped significantly in the past year.
According to the city's website www.YakimaWa.gov, "serious crimes in Yakima have dropped by nearly 22 percent in the last two years and by nearly 70 percent since they hit their heights in the late 1980s."
Part I crimes, which include homicide, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, lar-
ceny/theft offenses, and arson, are down to 53 per 1,000 citizens. This is by far the lowest rate since 1985 and 69 percent lower than the high-water mark of 175 per 1,000 back in 1988.
In all, six of the eight categories are down, with only motor vehicle thefts and arson up from the previous year. Most remarkable is Yakima's homicide rate in 2014. Just two murders were committed in the city all of last year.
