Yakima Police are battling crime while trying to stay healthy during the pandemic but criminals aren't slowing down at least not those stealing vehicles in the city of Yakima. Capt. Jay Seely says 552 vehicles were stolen within city limits in 2019 and so far this year the theft number sits at 207 vehicles. A majority of the vehicles are stolen during the cold winter months when people warm up vehicles in the driveway unlocked. 90 Vehicles were stolen in January of this year 42 were stolen during January of 2019.
46 Vehicles were stolen last April of 2019.  23 have been stolen so far this month.
