This past Saturday (June 7th), Habitat for Humanity of Yakima hosted their annual Upcycle Auction. This year they turned up the WOW factor with their Hoedown for Housing.

Over in Selah at the Forenpohar Ranch, a massive tent and beautiful barn was the showroom for the afternoon/evening. I had the pleasure of meeting Meloney Rosen, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity, and Shelly Parker, the Communications Director. They were the key players in putting together this event alongside many others.

Hoedown Fun, Auctions, and Food That Stole the Show

The fundraiser included a silent auction with beautiful pieces of art. Under the tent, they held a "live" auction where people were excited to bid on trips, dinners, and beautiful items for their homes.

Yakima Steak Company catered the event, serving mac & cheese, delicious rolls, beans, chicken, ribs. The bar served some wonderful adult lemonade, and I was feeling pretty good after two or three of those (ha-ha).

Live music from The Ponyboys had the barn filled with people ready to cut loose and dance the night away. People were having a great time, with smiles all around and people excited to share space with others.

One Family’s Powerful Story Shows Why This Night Mattered

The guest speaker for Hoedown for Housing spoke about how she and her daughters wanted to thank Habitat for Humanity of Yakima for helping them build a home. All the help she received enables her daughters to have a better life. Now they have a life goal to pay it forward.

Habitat For Humanity helps raise money for various projects that people in Yakima County. These projects include building homes for financially struggling families and providing other guidance to help them get back on track and find success in life.
