Over the Memorial weekend we decided to stop by The Kiln in West Valley. Not to grab a full meal, just a couple drinks and maybe an appetizer or two for us to share. The 'bread and beer cheese' on the menu seemed appealing enough but I've never ordered it up to this point as I don't really need an appetizer when I'm ordering a pizza. However, this particular day was perfect for just this. Once I got it and tried it I wonder why it took me so long to grab it in the first place.

What, exactly, is Beer Cheese?

What you get is exactly what's listed. You get fresh baked bread, kind of a half-circle, and plenty of 'beer cheese'. Beer cheese is perfect for dunking or spreading as it's a gooey cheese like cheddar along with garlic, black pepper and maybe some cayenne along with the beer to make it beer cheese. Though it's cooked through so it's not like it's alcoholic. Safe for children and all that.. I'm not sure what this beer cheese was made of but it was perfect. My only complaint to myself is that either I didn't use enough cheese per dipping of the bread or I needed more bread as I had plenty left.

Fortunately, I also had some chips that came with a sandwich we split so I used the chips for dunking, too.

We loved it so much that the next time we went there we ordered that along with a pizza to share. That's when we got the idea of spreading the beer cheese ON the pizza itself to make it a cheesy flavor explosion. Though it wasn't needed it was a fun experiment to try all the same.

Next time you're at The Kiln or anywhere that has beer cheese, might wanna order it. It's perfect for any occasion.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery.
