In This Era of Sensitivity Is It Wrong to Call Out the Mayor — I Mean, ‘A Dude’ — For Enjoying an, Ahem, ‘Girly Drink’?

I was recently enjoying happy hour with Yakima Mayor Micah Cawley. I ordered a Captain & Coke and he ordered the Grape Martini you see in the photo above.

I actually wanted to taste the drink to determine if there was, in fact, alcohol inside the drink but it was a catch 22 as then I might be seen drinking it and that sure as hell wasn’t going to happen. A real martini is gin, vermouth and bitters either stirred or shaken in ice and garnished with an olive. I’m pretty sure there was no gin, vermouth or bitters in this mayoral libation bastardization and there sure as hell wasn’t an olive.

I don’t know who I’m more disgusted with… His Dishonor, for ordering a girly drink OR the bar for calling it a “martini”. James Bond would surely launch a cigarette mini-rocket at the hack mixologist who soiled this classic cocktail with grape soda and orange slices!
