One of the stories about the Iron Goat Trail in Leavenworth is that a heavy avalanche killed at least 100 people who were onboard a train going through the tunnel near the Cascades. This was called the Great Wellington Avalanche of 1910.

I imagine those are the souls who are reportedly lurking about scaring people as they walk along the Iron Goat Trail.
