The Yakima Humane Society hosted their first ever Halloween event at Sherman Park this past Saturday (October 28th) filled with many smiles and many, MANY wagging tails! Sure, this was a free costume and trick-or-treating party, but it had a more important intentions!

Families were invited to come trick-or-treat (and shop) at local vendors and to have fun with their families (human and pet) in costumes, but to also get their dogs and cats vaccinated and microchipped if needed.

Another big opportunity of this event was to get pets adopted! To help a furry companion find their new home, and new lease on life!

Yakima Humane Society held a Summer Bash adoption event, that was a lot of fun (recap on that here), but this one upped the ante with offering vaccines and microchips, (trick-or-treating and costume contests didn’t hurt either). People and pets all decked out in their costumes were lined up for the event when it kicked off at 2 pm.

Lot of themed costumes, filled with “Hot-Dogs”, “Taco Cats”, and a couple of dinosaurs complete with their Jurassic Park wranglers (pics below)!

How Can I Help The Yakima Humane Society?

If you couldn’t make it to the event, but would like to help and support in other ways, donations of supplies or even money are always welcome. They can make a dollar stretch to help a lot of amazing animals. If you cannot donate anything financially, hopefully, you can spare some time. Volunteers are always needed. Whether it's help at the shelter or just coming by to spend some time and walk the dogs. Anything is appreciated! For all the information on adoption, donations, or volunteering, you can check out their website at
