Wildfire Risks Rise in Yakima Valley Amid Dry Summer Conditions
It's going to be a very dry summer in the Yakima valley. Everyone is getting ready for barbecuing, gathering around fire pits, and roasting marshmallows over campfires. However, with the region experiencing increasingly dry conditions, fire safety experts are urging caution to prevent wildfires and a smoke filled summer.
HERE COME THE BURN BANS
The Yakima County Board of Commissioners has approved a new ordinance establishing a mandatory outdoor burn ban in unincorporated areas of the county, effective June 1. The ban will remain in effect annually until August 31, aiming to enhance public safety and minimize wildfire risks during peak fire season.
KEEP FIRE SAFETY TOP OF MIND
In 2025, Washington State Fire Agencies reported 2,101 outdoor fire incidents across the state. They say the fires highlight the importance of fire safety, especially during the upcoming summer. To reduce the risk of accidental wildfires, everyone is encouraged to stay informed about current burn bans and fire restrictions, which can change rapidly based on weather conditions in the valley.
