THE YAKIMA FIRE CHIEF SAYS FIREFIGHTERS ARE ALWAYS BUSY

Every year the Yakima Fire Chief hopes everyone stays safe. Aaron Markham encourages everyone to attend public displays. He says even though fireworks have been banned for years in the city they cause problems every year. In 2021 for example he says Department Firefighters responded to 27 fires during the 4th of July weekend. They say most were grass fires caused by the use of fireworks. Last year the number was similar caused by the same problem, people playing with fireworks.

YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND A PUBLIC EVENT THIS YEAR

Fire officials are hoping instead of playing with fireworks that you'll attend a free public fireworks show like the celebration at Yakima's State Fair Park. The fireworks start at 10:00 pm at State Fair Park, 1301 South Fair Avenue. Other public shows are planned in the valley including at Selah's Carlon Park 300 E. Goodlander Road.
Mabton, Moxee, Granger and Zillah allow the sale fire use of fireworks under specific rules.
