
Failed Yakima Motorhome Thief Leaves Behind $20K of Garage and Boat Damage
A 38-year-old man is facing a charge of burglary and malicious mischief after police say he tried to steal a motorhome in Yakima on Saturday.
POLICE SAY THE SUSPECT WAS FOUND RAMMING THE GARAGE DOORS
Yakima Police say while trying to steal the motorhome the suspect caused more than $20,000 in damage. Officers were called to a home in the 1900 block of South 44th Avenue at about 3:30 am Saturday after the homeowners heard "loud banging sounds" coming from an detached garage on the property. They found the 38-year-old suspect behind the wheel repeatedly ramming the garage doors attempting to flee in the stolen motorhome.

THE SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS
According to an affidavit from the Yakima County Prosecutors Office when Officers arrived they ordered the suspect to come out of the motorhome where he was quickly arrested. Police say the suspect wasn't successful in stealing the motorhome but he did severely damage the motorhome, the detached garage as well as a small boat and trailer that were also in the garage. Damage is estimated at more than $20,000. Police say the damage was bad enough that the garage has the potential to collapse.
THE SUSPECT IS BEING HELD IN THE YAKIMA COUNTY JAIL
The 38-year-old suspect was arrested on Second Degree Burglary, First Degree Malicious Mischief, Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle and First Degree Vehicle Prowl. He was booked into the Yakima County jail. It's not known how the suspect was able to start the motorhome or how he gained access to the garage. The investigation into the crime continues today.
