More than 11,000 veterans call Yakima County home and every year many local veterans get lots of help at the Stand Down Benefits Fair. This year's event is set for October 21 in the Yakima Valley Sundome from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Ray Hernandez Coordinator of the Yakima County Veterans Program says many veterans can gain valuable services and information at the benefits fair which is all free to vets and their immediate family members.

ENJOY A FREE LUNCH OR GET HELP WITH VA MEDICAL CLAIMS

A free lunch is served and lots of free services like VA medical/shots, dental, counseling, help with VA claims and haircuts are available. In fact Hernandez says more than 100 different services will be offered to veterans and family members.

THOUSANDS OF VETERANS CALL THE VALLEY HOME

He says more than 13,000 veterans call Yakima home so he's hoping for a lot of people at the event. The Stand Down Veterans Benefits Fair is set for Saturday October 21, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Yakima Valley Sundome at State Fair Park, 11301 Fair Avenue in Yakima.

IT'S ALL FREE FOR VETERANS AND IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS

The event is free for veterans and immediate family members. COVID-19 didn't stop the even from happening in in 2020. Although it was much different than other years the 21st event was held in the Sundome. Lunch was a bag lunch to go but some of the services were available. On Saturday all services that have been available in past non-COVID-19 impacted events.
