A Local Fan Pleads For The Return Of A Classic Burrito
This is an open letter to all restaurants in Yakima and the Yakima Valley.
When Taco Bell first opened in the early '90s in Yakima, my most favorite item was the chili cheese burrito. It was nice, plain, and simple. Literally just chili and cheese in a flour tortilla. Back then they were 79 cents but I'm sure today they'd be $3 or whatever.

Still, I'm okay with that.
Or I would be if they actually carried them.
Yakima hasn't seen the chili cheese burrito at Taco Bell in many, many years.
So, at this point, I'm tired of asking. So now I'll ask others.

If there was a Mexican restaurant in Yakima that could provide a chili cheese burrito comparable to what Taco Bell had, I'd love it and would sing its praises from the rooftops of Yakima.
Not something of a redone remix, not something 'we took the old formula and improved it' as it's never an improvement. Not even something that was 'like that, but better' - just make that. Chili and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla.
And, yes, I can make them at home and, yes, I have tried. But, for reasons beyond my own comprehension, I it's not exactly the same.
Maybe you know what that secret was to make these so amazing. Maybe it's the fact I didn't wrap it in that waxy paper right afterwards. Maybe the chili was a specific chili that I can't just buy on shelves.
Since Taco Bell locations in Yakima won't make the Chili Cheese Burrito, someone else can and I'll buy them often.
And we're not going to bring up that when they were first available they were called the 'chilito' - let's not.
