Many people whose taste in music is more refined, e.g., your average Diffuser reader, find Christmas music somewhat unbearable. Fortunately, there are those who have decided to take matters into their own hands by seeking out the very best music written for this cold holiday season. A new documentary, 'Jingle Bell Rocks!,' tells the story of a few of these ambitious individuals.

Filmmaker Mitchell Kezin found people who go above and beyond the call of duty to find the best Christmas songs. The film's website says a search for more modern, fitting Christmas music was overdue.

In his search for the twelve best, underappreciated Christmas songs ever recorded, Kezin both asks and answers the question, “Why, when Christmas rolls around, are we still stuck cozying up with Bing Crosby under a blanket of snow?”

Kezin also talks to a number of great musicians and artists, including Flaming Lips head weirdo Wayne Coyne, soul legend Clarence Carter, filmmaker John Waters and Joseph Simmons, a.k.a. Rev. Run DMC.

Needless to say, the documentary also includes some awesome music.

Screenings of the film are making their way across the country now until the day after Christmas. If you're not able to make it to one of the theater screenings, you can still buy the film on DVD or as a download from the website. And in the spirit of the holidays, here's one of the tracks from the featured music in 'Jingle Bell Rocks!':
