Are you wondering what to do with the kids this holiday weekend? I can relate. I have a 10-year-old, and while she's away visiting family this weekend, if she were here I would be sitting at home on my recliner watching tv and letting the marbles roll around in my head trying to figure out what we can do to keep her entertained and off the electronics as much as possible.

Here is part one (1) of series of the top four things I think we can do this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to occupy our kids and make our hearts happy, too, at the same time!

1. Splash Park: There is a really nice splash park at MLK Park over on S 8th St in Yakima. The park has gone through some recent improvements, too, thanks to the Downtown Yakima Rotary Club (shout out to Eric Silvers, past president, for spearheading that initiative). Put a swimsuit on your kids, lather them up with sunscreen, and bring a towel and some flip flops for them to jump into after they are done running through the splash pad and making new friends with the other kids at the splash pad. Bring your own lawn chair so that you can relax in the shade because this heat is no joke!

2. State Fair Park Carnival: Because there is a big 20-minute fireworks show happening on Sunday along with a concert of the best of the Apple Jam band competition, the folks at the fair are hosting carnival rides for the kids. There is also fair food available for sale, too, so bring money for the carnival ride wrist bands and money for some fair food!
