Korn members James 'Munky' Shaffer, Brian 'Head' Welch and Jonathan Davis are featured in a new documentary Mind Over Matter.

The film tells the story of Brandon Mendenhall, a musician who was born with cerebral palsy, a neurological disorder that affects movement, coordination and balance. Despite his dream of becoming a rockstar, he was told he would never be able to play an instrument. Throughout his youth, he battled the condition and was bullied, but he eventually strengthened his left hand enough to learn guitar.

Mendenhall found solace in members of Korn, and he later went on to form his own band The Mendenhall Experiment, which he used as a platform to spread awareness about disabilities. ”If you asked me why I want to be a rockstar... it's not about the fame or money... I have a unique opportunity to inspire people and kids with disabilities with my playing, my music and my story! I truly believe that's what I was put on this earth to do," he says. The band signed to Universal shortly after their performance at Monster Energy's Aftershock Festival in 2016 and released their debut EP in 2017.

“This film is truly evident that the power of music has the ability to inspire and ignite people’s passion to overcome our own obstacles and achieve our dreams, no matter how difficult it may seem," says Munky.

Nita Strauss, who also is featured in the film, says, "From the first time I met Brandon working in the studio to all the times I’ve seen him rock it on stage since, his joy, passion, and love of what he does always shines through. I’m so glad the world will get to hear his story now through this documentary."

Mind Over Matter was directed by Sebastien Paquet and will be released Friday, Jan. 25 on Sumerian Films. See the trailer below.
