Luke Bryan performed the National Anthem prior to kickoff at Super Bowl LI on Sunday night (Feb. 5). As promised, the country superstar sang a cappella.

Bryan's performance clocked in (by The Boot's stopwatch) at 2:04; the artist sang the National Anthem mostly without flourishes, until the very end, when he accentuated "home of the brave" as Air Force Thunderbirds flew over the stadium. Throughout the anthem, however, the crowd at NRG Stadium could be heard cheering loudly. Readers can press play above to watch Bryan's performance.

Previously, when his performance was announced, Bryan said that he was “so excited” to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 2017. It was the singer's first time performing during Super Bowl festivities; other country artists who have performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl include Garth Brooks and the Dixie Chicks.

“Is the anthem challenging? Yes. Is it nerve-wracking? Yes,” Bryan says. “But I moved to Nashville to follow my dreams, and singing the National Anthem on that stage doesn’t get any bigger.”

Following his Super Bowl LI performance, Bryan will hit the road once again, for more of his Kill the Lights Tour; the trek begins on Feb. 16. Bryan has headlining sets at the 2017 Tortuga Music Festival and WE Fest 2017 on his calendar for this year too, as well as his summer 2017 Huntin', Fishin' and Lovin' Every Day Tour; additionally, he will be mentoring Blake Shelton's team during Season 12 of The Voice.
