Toppenish’s Washington Beef Is Staying Open, Despite Rumors

There was some confusion with food manufacturing plants closing down in the Pacific Northwest, which has caused quite the beef online. Sadly, yes, one company is closing down, but it doesn’t hit as close to home as we initially feared.

The Original False Story That Spread

False information has spread this week about the fate of Washington Beef in Toppenish, with the info claiming that it was shutting its doors and closing down. That IS NOT the case.

Townsquare Media staff member Jack Balzer reached out to their corporate office to check and was assured that Washington Beef is fine and staying open. Sadly, another food manufacturer is closing down.

Stanwood, Washington Factory Shuts Down

The plant-based food manufacturer out of Canada, No Meat Factory, ceased operations in late July at its Stanwood facility, which resulted in over 100 layoffs. This news was reported by HeraldNet.com.

It is believed that the false information about Washington Beef's closing was confused with what was reported about No Meat Factory in Stanwood (located roughly 50 miles north of Seattle, in Snohomish County).

Confusion And Anger Online

News like this can spread fast, and false news can spread even faster. Sparking online comments filled with worry about the Yakima Valley agricultural industry, other comments went very political, and even accusations of illegal practices.

I feel horrible for the families impacted in Stanwood, but I’m grateful that Washington Beef will remain open for a very long time.
