Mariners Place Felix Hernandez On Disabled List; Paxton Promoted For Spot Start Tonight
The Seattle Mariners announced that they have placed Felix Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list for the first time since 2008.
Citing a strain in his right calf, King Felix lands on the DL for only the third time in his prolific career.
The M's called up southpaw James Paxton from Tacoma (AAA). Paxton joins the team in San Diego, where he was set to start tonight as Seattle opens an abbreviated two-game series against the Padres.
Hernandez has a 4-4 record this season paired with a 2.86 ERA and opposing hitters are only batting .217 when facing him. Questions regarding El Rey's decreased velocity this season have dogged the 30-year-old right-handed pitcher for most of the 2016 campaign.
