No More Complaining Yakima It’s Time To Become a Politician!

Next month will kick off a busy election season in Yakima County and Washington State. Auditor Charles Ross says the office just finished with a special election in the Wahluke and Grandview School Districts. The districts were asking for support for a levy and a proposition.

Your chance to put your money where your mouth is comes May 16

Now Ross says they're preparing for the next big date, May 16. That's the day candidate filing week opens in Washington State.
During that time many people are expected to file for office. But there's been a big change in Yakima County.

There a new political map. What district do you live in now?

Ross says the changes in political boundaries after redistricting last year split the county into northern and southern districts and a third district making up most of the city of Yakima. The redistricting is the result of a settlement between Yakima County and One America an immigrant rights group in the state. The group sued the county over it's election system saying it was unfair to Hispanics. Under a settlement, the three Yakima County Commissioner seats will all be up for election in 2022.

Ross says all three positions have never appeared on a general election ballot but they'll be on the ballot this year.
