Sevendust vocalist Lajon Witherspoon has some wild stories about his tattoos. We recently caught up with the singer and got the precious details behind his many inked artworks.

This clip was shot on-site at the 2018 Inkcarceration Festival, which was held at the Ohio State Reformatory. The Mansfield, Ohio prison is most famous as the shooting location for The Shawshank Redemption.

Lajon got his first tattoo at age 17 — a tribal band around his right arm. “Once it goes in, it’s not gonna come out,” the artist told Witherspoon. He hid the ink from his parents for as long as he could, but Lajon’s mother soon realized the pieces on her son’s body weren’t temporary stencils.

Witherspoon’s faith is all over his left forearm, sporting portraits of Jesus and Mother Mary. The funny part, though, is what Mother Mary’s covering up. “There used to be a mermaid with tits right there, and as I got older, got married, started having kids… I didn’t want daddy to have titties on his arm.”

Check out Lajon’s tattoos in the video above and get ready for the 2019 Inkcarceration Festival on July 12-14. Five Finger Death Punch, Godsmack, Shinedown and more have been announced for this year's festival and tickets are now available!
