The weather is working out so well that's it's making us want to get out and go do things -- maybe starting with stuff you haven't done yet in the Yakima Valley. I moved to the Yakima are four years ago and I cannot stop exploring -- there is so much to see within just 60 miles! I am looking to expand my horizons this summer, but for now, I want to see what I can within an hour's drive or so.

A ton of people who have lived here their whole lives have never stopped by the Yakima Valley Museum at 2105 Tieton Drive in Yakima.

So let's start there.

The Yakima Valley Museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10-5.  Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, and $12 for a family. The museum has been around since 1951, and they have lots of stuff to see -- things that might surprise you and leave you wondering how they got them.

This month the museum has a number of special events, but my favorite is their focus on Japanese culture. I love anything from Japan!

Going on throughout this month is the "Land of Joy and Sorrow: Japanese Pioneers of the Yakima Valley." This exhibit shows us the hardships our Japanese pioneers endured in this valley. It also shows us some of the traditions and art from the Japanese culture.

The museum is also featuring "Art from Yakima Valley Museum Collections." Some of this art has yet to see the light of day, so it will be interesting to take a peek. The display continues through Sept. 12.

One of the fun events at the museum is Thursday (March 12), when it's movie night!

The featured film is "Shanghai Express." They'll have popcorn and drinks.

See? There is always something to do in the Yakima Valley. Get out and see for yourself!
