Todd’s Take: August 16th — My Bro’s B-day & the Death of Royalty

August 16th has always been a significant date on the calendar for me as it is the day in 1972 that my younger brother, Justin, was born. As it turns out, it is also a significant date because of all of the pop culture icons who have died on the same date.

Believe it or not, it was one year ago today that we learned of the passing of Aretha Franklin, "The Queen of Soul". She joined other heavenly royalty that passed away on August 16th as well.

It gets more than coincidental after that. The "King of the Delta Blues", the "King of Swing", and the "King of Rock-'n-Roll" were all taken away from us on the 16th day of August.
