It's that time of year that heading north will lead you to salmon fishing success.

You may keep one wild adult chinook as part of the daily limit in Brewster Pool right now.

The rule is in effect until further notice, which means check the emergency rules on your phone daily if you're up there fishing from the Highway 173 bridge at Brewster upstream to the Highway 17 bridge at Bridgeport. The rule could change at a moment's notice once we get close to the catch limit.

Wildlife managers estimate of wild adult chinook salmon returning to the Okanogan River exceed spawner escapement needs. Approximately 2,000 wild adult chinook are available for harvest by recreational sport anglers, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The daily salmon limit in the Brewster Pool is still four (4) chinook, but remember this area remains closed for sockeye salmon.

Check your regs and know your catch code.
