Yakima Geek Swap Meet Brings Childhood Treasures to Life

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: it’s a great time to be nerdy in the Yakima Valley! Last Saturday (August 15th), treasure hunters of the nerdy and geeky variety partook in a “Geek Swap Meet” in Yakima.

Collectors showed up to purchase new books, sell their extra inventory, and make some great trades in the process. We have a few pictures of a small sampling that was on hand, and the details on the next one, so you don’t miss out!

Getting Nerdy With It At The Fruitvale Grange

There’s been a handful of these Geek Swap Meets presented by Yakomix (1404 Fruitvale Blvd in Yakima), but this one was the first one at the Fruitvale Grange (2908 Castlevale Rd) where I was able to not only shop, but also be a part of it.

I got to mingle with my fellow collectors, see some friends, make some trades, and fill up some of the holes in my collection that I’ve been hunting for (currently, it’s the ' 90s run of Silver Surfer).

Lots of comic book vendors, but also people with, as I jokingly said, “my childhood on a table!” Action figures from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman, Spider-Man, and so many more childhood favorites.

One vendor, Jessie Roberts (who also owns Northtown Coffee House), really blew me away with his collection of vintage movies on display, even screening the 1988 Ron Howard sci-fi classic, WILLOW, on a TV behind his table.

The Next Geek Swap Meet Will Be Spooky

Mark your calendar for the next Geek Swap Meet haunting collectors on Saturday, October 31st. These are free to attend, and you can meet fellow collectors and nerdy treasure seekers. Bonus points if you come dressed up in costume!
