Yakima Man Arrested After Tragic Tuesday Crash
Yakima Police say an 80-year-old driver was seriously injured and another driver arrested for Vehicular Assault Tuesday after a crash at the intersection of 16th Avenue and Nob Hill Blvd.
Police say the suspect driver ran the red light at 16th and Nob Hill
Police say a 37-year-old man was driving "recklessly" on Nob Hill from 7th Avenue when he drove through a red light at the intersection and collided with a vehicle driven by the 80-year-old man. The older man's vehicle then crashed into two other vehicles. A press release from the Yakima Police Department says "the suspects own vehicle partially rolled and came to rest on its side." The suspect driver was not injured but the other 80-year-old driver was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital and later air-lifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. One other driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The suspect driver was arrested at the scene of the crash
Police say the 37-year-old suspect was arrested for Vehicular Assault. They also say that "neither drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision."
Anyone with information or video of the incident or of the suspect vehicle leading up to the collision is encouraged to contact Sergeant Scott Grant by phone: 509-728-6625 or email: scott.grant@yakimawa.gov.
Police are still investigating another serious crash from August 26
the August 26th crash at 28th Avenue and Tieton that injured a Yakima motorcycle rider remains under investigation. The 28-year-old man who was injured continues to be treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for serious injuries.
Yakima Police say an 18-year-old driver of a Jeep Patriot caused the crash by failing to yield the right-of-way as she was turning from Tieton Drive. She was not licensed and she was not injured. The Jeep driver was not cited at the scene and no charges have yet been filed.
Prosecutors will make a decision soon on whether or not to charge the Jeep driver in the crash.
