Yakima Valley Cow Tipping: Myth or Real Thing?

Who has gone cow tipping in the Yakima Valley? If you have ever done it, was it successful? If you said, why did you lie? That’s right, if you said you’ve succeeded in tipping over a cow, you are one of 3 things:

• 1 – Superman
• 2 – Extremely Lucky and found a dizzy cow.
• 3 – A LIAR!

I grew up in Naches, so of course we’ve all talked about cow tipping, and have had friends or family members boast about how much fun it is.

Thinking about it, yes, I did laugh; things falling over (even me) can be funny (as long as no one is seriously hurt). But that’s where I started having my true feelings come out about how it’s cruel, especially where cows can weigh between 800 and 2,400 pounds (thank you, Britannica, for that fact).

So, when I learned all the facts of how Cow Tipping is a myth, it made me a little happier, because I can now selfishly laugh at the thought of someone pushing a cow over (without anyone/thing getting hurt), and I also realized how many of my friends and family members are full of BULL****.

Facts About Cows That Prevent Cow Tipping

Here are some of the facts that I’ve recently learned about cows and the impossible tipping of them.

Weight (already discussed this above).

Sleeping lying down! There is a chance that they can slightly doze off while standing, but for cows to fully sleep, they need to be lying down.

Cows Spend Most Of The Time On the Ground. On average, a cow spends around 8 to 12 hours each day lying down, usually in 1- to 2-hour bursts, sleeping (4 hours per day), resting, and chewing their cud.

Cows Will Move! They have four legs; if you get close enough to push, they’ll probably just move a step away, IF they let you get that close. They have great senses, especially with danger or wrong doers (even tippers).

Devil’s Advocate With Cow Tipping

Don’t go trying to tip cows, even if it’s your cow. Because, say you are lucky to knock a cow off balance, it’d probably be cause of the “mud”, which could cause the animal to slip, along with you slipping, and having the heavy heifer fall right on you, making you into ground beef (ha, pun).
