We Asked, You Answered: What Are Yakima Valley Residents Excited About?
There is plenty to be excited for in the Yakima Valley as a whole. Summer is here, the weather is nice, we’re surrounded by beautiful lakes and forests to escape to. We have amazing events and shows taking place in the valley and, of course, several opportunities for us to get out and meet up.
But what are YOU excited about? What is happening in your own life that has you counting down the days?
We asked that question to our listeners, and their responses were fun and meaningful, some sarcastic and others very heartfelt.
The ‘Excited’ Question That Was Posed To Our Yakima Valley Listeners / Readers
We asked our listeners/readers, “What are you excited about right now?” with the added “Please don’t say ‘nothing”.
I must say, I was happy that we only got one smart-aleck saying “nothing.” All other responses, although some may be funny and sarcastic, were genuine.
Looking at all the responses, it seems like their excitement could be broken into 4 different categories: Work & Finance related, Outdoors, Entertainment, and Family.
Yakima Valley’s Excitement Over Work & Finance
You might be wondering how someone can be excited about anything, work or financial, well Trever Harmon is looking forward to that next paycheck, even though he knows bills are going to make short work of it. At the same time, Tim Britz Jr is just days from RETIREMENT!

John D Putnam is on to new things, with him finishing his final day at his current job.
Sylvia Pena is just excited about being done with work for the week and grilling on his new BBQ this weekend.
Yakima Valley’s Excitement For The Outdoors
I find my excitement in two different areas, but when it comes to the outdoors, my family makes an annual camping trip in August, and as much as I love being home, I find my excitement growing for this makeshift family reunion.
Much of the same thoughts come from Cyndi Shelby Manka and Julie Lopez, who is looking forward to boating season and getting out on the lake, and Chacha Perez, who is excited about ‘Forest trips.’
Others shared their excitement for the outdoors like Everett Lindsey:
“Our crazy, seemingly out of control, beautiful growing like crazy, Sunflowers.”
Getting out in the yard brings all sorts of smiles, like how Justin Young is excited about the first crop of vegetables that’s currently growing.
Lorne Wedell, Cynthia Berber, and Carolyn Beams are just excited for each beautiful day that is unfolding and the heat that is coming with it to make an amazing summer, and Malorie Weller plans to spend the summer outside with her dogs!
Yakima Valley’s Excitement For Entertainment
The 2nd area that I’m excited about is a couple of shows that are coming up, several shows at the Capitol Theatre, and the new Superman film (I’m a nerd). But I’m far from the only one who is excited about upcoming events.
Yvonne Elwell is excited for “Our treaty days coming up, YES!” Jamie Kegley looks to have some fun at Paranormal Cirque, which’ll be making its way back to the Yakima Valley.
And, of course, we can’t forget about big events coming up, many responses for upcoming concerts at Legends Casino Hotel, and Joshua Clum-Dezsi’s anticipated return of football action, especially the Seattle Seahawks!
Yakima Valley’s Excitement For Their Family
Birthdays, Weddings, family vacations, even jokes about kids moving out (or in the case of Cassandra Phillips, and her son’s next chapter of education). Family was a big one that people were excited about, even if it is just getting out and cooking or ‘smoking meat this summer’, which is the plan for Ryan Stevens.
Getting excited for family time makes perfect sense. Even the four-legged family members!
“Just took my dog for a walk, even though I didn’t want to go out in the heat – but the happy dog face was worth it!”
– Jamie Eileen.
