Patricia Byers was voted by her fellow council members to serve as Yakima's "ceremonial" Mayor.   At the time she had no way of knowing that in a few weeks she would be the point person in a city with the highest per capita cases of Coronavirus on the West Coast.

She is a calm, mature, prepared and responsible voice in this time of national emergency.

Mayor Beyers was a guest on the Morning News today to clarify what extending the emergency declaration really means.
