More growth in the Schneider Springs fire on Thursday but firefighters say they’re making progress everyday establishing more containment lines.

THE FIRE GREW ON THURSDAY BUT IT'S SLOWING

Officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest say the fire grew from 73.403 acres on Thursday to 75,055 acres Today. The fire is still at 8 percent containment. Firefighters say they had to battle 20 mile per hour winds Thursday. They say the area of Cliffdell on the east flank of the fire, the fire became visible from Highway 410, with flames backing and material rolling down the steep slopes near the highway corridor.

FIREFIGHTERS EXPECT A WINDY WEEKEND ON THE FIRE LINES

Today and into the weekend gusty winds are expected and that could delay some “firing” operations where firefighters use fire to battle the growing flames. A press release says “structure protection work continues north of the fire near the junction of Highway 410 and US 12 today. Crews will also be using heavy equipment where possible to improve indirect containment lines on Old River Road. Firefighters working the night shift will continue the important work of monitoring fire activity and structures in the Gold Creek and Bumping River areas on the north end of the fire and on the south, crews will be holding and securing the recently burned fire perimeter on Bethel Ridge.

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE AND A LOT OF EQUIPMENT ARE IN THE BATTLE

Nearly 670 people and resources are working the fire with 15 hand crews, 50 engines, 6 dozers, 6 aircraft and 24 other pieces of heavy equipment.

STAY AWAY FROM RIMROCK LAKE AND RIMROCK CAMPING AREAS THEY'RE CLOSED

Fire officials say don’t even think about recreating on or near Rimrock lake. According to a Facebook post from the Rimrock cabin owners “campers, boaters, cabin owners, closed is closed and no one except caretakers should be up there. All recreational use and the lake are closed until further notice.  The aircraft can’t skim to reload water if they see any watercraft. Please get out of the lake and vacate the area.”
