An Accused Juvenile Killer in Yakima is Preparing for Trial

As authorities continue to investigate the March 15 fatal shooting outside Eisenhower High School the Yakima County Prosecutors office continues to prepare for the upcoming trial for the 15-year-old suspect, Jessy James Lee Krikorian Jr. for the killing of 16-year-old Shawn Tolbert.

A pre-trial hearing is set for May 18

Krikorian Jr. continues to be held in the Yakima County Juvenile Jail. His bail is maintained at $500,000. The trial will be held in Yakima County Juvenile Court.
Brusic says a hearing to deal with pre-trial motions is set for May 18 with the trial set for June 6. It had previously been set for April 25.

The suspect is being held in the Yakima County Juvenile Jail

Krikorian Jr. is charged with second-degree murder, nine cases of first-degree-assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and carrying a firearm on school property. Two days after the shooting Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic decided against asking a judge to move the case to adult court so Krikorian, Jr. will face charges as a juvenile.

The prosecutor says he lacked evidence to move the case to adult court

Brusic tells KIT News he doesn't have the evidence to support asking a judge to move the case to adult court. He says Krikorian Jr. doesn't have a record of crimes to support such a move so he decided against asking a judge to move the case. Brusic says as a result of being charged in juvenile court Krikorian Jr. could face a maximum sentence of no more than 5 years in juvenile jail if convicted on all charges. As the trial date nears prosecutors and defense attorney's continue to investigate the crime.
