Yakima School Shooter Sentencing Set for September 20

No juvenile court trial for a 15-year-old suspect arrested in a school shooting in Yakima. Instead a sentencing is set for Tuesday, September 20 in Yakima County Juvenile Court.
The trial was cancelled after the 15-year-old suspect plead guilty last month to a charge of second-degree murder in connection to the March 15 shooting in the parking lot at Eisenhower High School. Police say school had ended for the day and a fight was about to happen in the parking lot of the school when Jessy James Lee Krikorian Jr. pulled a gun and fired the shots. Krikorian Jr. also plead guilty in Yakima County Juvenile Court to two counts of second-degree assault.

The suspects cousin was shot and killed in the incident

Police say Krikorian Jr. killed his cousin  identified as 16-year-old Dwight Tolbert. Neither Tolbert or Krikorian Jr. were students at Eisenhower High School. Tolbert was attending Yakima Online School and Krikorian Jr. had just started attending nearby Wilson Middle school.

The Yakima County Prosecutor decided not to file charges in adult court

Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic decided days after the shooting that Krikorian Jr. would not face charges in adult court saying he doubted a judge would have approved moving the case from juvenile court because of the lack of Krikorian Jr.'s criminal history.
Sentencing is set for Septmber 20. Brusic says as a result of being charged in Yakima County juvenile court Krikorian Jr. will likely face a sentence of no more than 5 years in juvenile jail.
