Lemmy Kilmister's name is synonymous with Motorhead, known for his gravel-toned singing, uncompromisingly loud bass playing and an unrepentant love for rock 'n' roll. Even while Motorhead managed to crank out 22 studio album's during Lem's lifetime, he found time for a rockabilly project named The Head Cat. The trio (now billed as Headcat) performed at Wacken Open Air this year, paying homage to their departed frontman with a performance of their new song, "Born to Lose, Live to Win."

Headcat features Slim Jim Phantom (drums, The Stray Cats) and Danny B. Harvey (guitar, Lonesome Spurs, The Rockats) as well as newly-instated vocalist / bassist David Vincent of Morbid Angel fame. "For over 18 years, there was another man standing where I'm standing right now. Now, I wasn't in the band with him, but these two folks up here miss him real bad and they were very good friends. So, what we did is we wrote a little song as a tribute to dearly departed Mr. Lemmy Kilmister," said Vincent before ripping into the straight ahead rocker with a southern twang.

The Headcat performance wasn't the only Lemmy tribute to take place at this year's Wacken festival. Following Alice Cooper's set, one of the fest's organizers took the stage to announce that Motorhead's cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" would serve as the anthem of Wacken's 2018 installment, imploring the crowd to sing along as the track blared from the speakers.

The "Heroes" cover is taken from Motorhead's forthcoming Under Cover album, which compiles the band's previously released cover songs as well as the new Bowie offering which was tracked in 2015.
