A Brand New-ish Way to Get to the CWSF This Year

The Central Washington State Fair is in full swing for 2023 and we couldn’t be more excited! The fair’s theme this year is “Fun for All”, and so far that I’ve seen, all are having lots of fair fun. Don’t want to pay for parking? There’s a new way to get to the fair with Yakima Transit and it’s still free-- and possibly even more convenient for you to get to than years past. Keep reading!

PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT THESE FAIR THINGS THE MOST

There are 3 major things people are talking about this year when it comes to the Fair. For instance, I asked a few of my friends what they were looking forward to the most and of course, the topic of NEW FAIR FOOD came up first. Then we oohed and ahhed over the “Fast Pass” ride option available at the Fair this year for $10 extra. Watch out, Disneyland!

The Pickle Pizza was surprisingly delicious! I recommend the Pickle Pizza to anyone who loves pizza.

I was very hesitant to try the Pickle Pizza, but I was encouraged to eat it by one of the State Fair Park employees. I did, and I am so glad I did! You can find the pickle pizza at the Pizza booth right beside the Beer Garden near the main food strip area.

I was very impressed with the Krispy Kreme Burger sample, so much so, that I went back for a second sample (and it was sold out)!

The Krispy Kreme Burgers gave one of my friends pause because she couldn’t imagine how that would be tasty, but I told her that I got to sample it during Media Day this week. It’s amazing how the sweetness of the doughnut balanced out the flavors of the beef patty! (Wow, I totally sounded like Guy Fieri just then.)

YAKIMA TRANSIT HAS A NEW LOCATION FOR THE FREE SHUTTLE BUS TO THE FAIR THIS YEAR

Typically, there is a park and ride shuttle for fairgoers at the Target store parking lot (12 N Fair Ave) on the far side facing Fair Ave. This year, there is a fair shuttle that is closer for those living in Southwest Yakima, and I couldn’t be more excited about that because it’s FREE. That means no worrying about paying those parking fees at the fair and dealing with all the extra fair traffic! It’s a win-win.

THE NEW LOCATION TO CATCH THE FREE FAIR SHUTTLE

I’m old enough to remember when Astria Hospital was called Regional Hospital. The hospital went out of business a few years ago and the parking lot has since become a great place for neighborhood families to train their kids how to fall off of ride their bikes and rollerblades. I live right near the lot, so during COVID years, I took my daughter there to play pickleball, since the court at Franklin Park was deserted most days.
