You Can Help a Homeless Yakima Veteran By Donating Warm Clothes

Homeless and low income veterans in the Yakima valley are hoping you'll donate items and food to keep them warm this winter season. Officials at the Yakima County Veterans Program say they work closely with veterans who seek help at the office. Many are looking for cold winter gear and food.

YAKIMA RESIDENTS HELP EVERY YEAR THIS YEAR NO DIFFERENT

Every year the program Director Ray Hernandez says they give the items and food to vets who come to the office for a variety of help all year around but especially during the fall and winter months. Hernandez says 13,000 veterans call Yakima County home but only a handful are actually on the street and homeless.

THE PROGRAM HELPS THOSE WHO AREN'T HOMELESS AS WELL

Hernandez however says they help all veterans homeless or not. He's hoping for your help again this year. He says many people have donated this year and he's hoping for more donations.

YOU CAN DONATE NEW OR GENTLY USED ITEMS

Hernandez says they're collecting coats, gloves, knit hats and blankets. He says they're also hoping people will donate soups and snacks, pet food and other food and anything else that a veteran could use to keep warm or help them through the winter.

DROP OFF YOUR DONATIONS AT OUR STUDIOS

You can drop off donations at the Yakima County Veterans' Program office at 223 North 1st Street. Or you can drop off donations at KIT studios at 4010 Summitview. We'll continue to collect the food and other items through the winter months.
