Washington Is Unexpectedly the #2 Place in America to Find Gold
Did you know that Washington state is in the top places where people are still finding gold?
I find that hard to believe that I would ever be able to actually find real gold around here, especially given my cynical nature. That would be like me winning big in the lottery-NOT GONNA HAPPEN.
Perhaps I should never say never, because according to one study, Washington, California, and Oregon are the top states where gold is still available.
As in, you’re most likely to find gold, not that you WILL find gold.
That is, unless you plan on becoming a swashbucklin' sea pirate or turning into Uncle Scrooge McDuck.
According to SDBullion’s article, “Top States Where You Are Most Likely to Find Gold in the Ground”, Washington is ranked the second most likely state to find hidden gold.
Okay, so where’s the gold at??!! (Don’t tell my 7th grade English teacher I said that.)
“Despite only having 2,271 locations where gold has been found or is currently being produced, Washington is the smallest state in terms of land area of any state in the top ten at 66,455 square miles, resulting in such a high ranking and securing second place. “ - SDBullion.com
The report says in Washington state there are 34.17 locations to find gold per 1,000 square miles.
FUN FACT: If you want to hunt for gold there is a catch. It is illegal to look for gold in Washington state on private lands (due to mineral rights). It is also illegal to claim any gold found on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Once you determine whether or not you need to obtain the appropriate permission, try one of these three Washington state places in your search for gold!
And remember kids, if you ever DO find any gold, please don't try to smuggle it out of the country in your keister!
