Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse for us in the Pacific Northwest, now we get word that over 12,000 pounds of bacon have been recalled in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho! Luckily, the reason probably isn’t too dire.

Blame Canada For The Bacon Troubles

As I was reading about the recall issued by the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), I couldn’t help but remember the song from the South Park Movie, “Blame Canada”. How dare they send us bacon that we didn’t inspect?

You read that right: the reason for the recall is the bacon in question did not go through “Import Reinspection” upon entering the United States.

According to the USDA, once incoming shipments have met U.S. Customs and Border Protection and APHIS requirements, they must then be reinspected by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Products that pass reinspection are stamped with the USDA mark of inspection and allowed to enter U.S. commerce for distribution.” – Delish.com

As of this writing, no illness due to recalled bacon has been reported.
