Bacon Recall Impacts Washington Grocery Stores
Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse for us in the Pacific Northwest, now we get word that over 12,000 pounds of bacon have been recalled in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho! Luckily, the reason probably isn’t too dire.
Blame Canada For The Bacon Troubles
As I was reading about the recall issued by the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), I couldn’t help but remember the song from the South Park Movie, “Blame Canada”. How dare they send us bacon that we didn’t inspect?
You read that right: the reason for the recall is the bacon in question did not go through “Import Reinspection” upon entering the United States.
“According to the USDA, once incoming shipments have met U.S. Customs and Border Protection and APHIS requirements, they must then be reinspected by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Products that pass reinspection are stamped with the USDA mark of inspection and allowed to enter U.S. commerce for distribution.” – Delish.com
As of this writing, no illness due to recalled bacon has been reported.
Products Being Recalled
The bacon in question were produced by Maple Leaf Foods and were sold under the brand names of Royale Natural Applewood Smoked All Natural Uncured Bacon (sell by dates of 9/1/2026 and 9/7/2026), and Top VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon (sell by dates of 9/1/2026, 9/2/2026, 9/4/2026, 9/5/2026, 9/7/2026).

“The product subject to recall bears Canadian establishment number "EST. 1" printed on the side of the package, and health certificate "2026-S732971612" on master case boxes. This item was further distributed to Grocery Outlet distributors and retailers in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.”
